Police make arrest in relation to a gas station robbery

At 8:06 p.m. on October 23 police responded to a report of a robbery at the Canadian Tire Gas Bar located at 566 Main St. in Dartmouth.

A staff member reported to police that a man had robbed the store while armed with a gun and fled the store on foot with a quantity of cigarettes and money. No one was hurt. Patrol members, assisted by a K9 unit searched the area, however, they were unable to locate the suspect.

At 8:44 p.m. officers from the West Quick Response Unit observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Halifax earlier in the evening. When police attempted to stop the vehicle the driver attempted to elude police and then stopped the vehicle in the area of Coronation Ave and fled on foot. Police were able to apprehend the adult male suspect after a brief foot pursuit.

Police identified the suspect as the male responsible for the robbery at the Canadian Tire Gas Bar and he was taken into custody.

The investigation is in the preliminary stages and the incident is being investigated by the General Investigative Section.
