Police offer tips for New Year’s Eve

Halifax Regional Police wishes citizens a safe and Happy New Year.

Extra officers will be working tonight as part of the New Year’s Eve festivities. Police will also continue with Operation Christmas which involves random checkpoints throughout HRM to catch impaired drivers and ensure road safety in our community. As part of this year’s campaign, officers in HRM have charged 64 people with impaired driving in the month of December alone.

Citizens are also reminded about Campaign 911 which encourages people to call police when they have information about a suspected impaired driver. Help police keep our roads safe. If you have information on a drunk driver, please call 911.

Police encourage citizens to plan ahead for transportation this New Year’s Eve by arranging for a designated driver, taking advantage of Metro Transit’s free bus and ferry services (see www.halifax.ca/metrotransit for full details) or taking a cab. Most importantly, Halifax Regional Police reminds citizens to drink responsibly.

If you drink, don’t drive!
