Update on earlier emergency safety message, police release name of suspect

Halifax Regional Police remain on scene of a threats call in the Gaston Road area of Dartmouth and are continuing the investigation.

At approximately 9:20 a.m. Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a man, with a firearm, who was threatening people who are known to him. The man fled the area on foot before police arrived. Police continue to search for the suspect who has been identified as 49-year-old David John Campbell. David is described as a white man, approximately 6‘tall, 170 lbs., bald with tattoos on both arms and was last seen wearing a dark jacket and jeans.

An emergency alert was sent out to the public this morning out of an abundance of caution to make the public aware of the investigation as a suspect with a firearm was believed to hiding in a highly populated area.  Officers have thoroughly searched the Gaston Road area and investigators are now considering that he may no longer be in that area.

There has been no information provided to investigators thus far to indicate that the suspect has any intentions of injuring members of the public however given the possibility that he may still be in possession of a firearm we are asking that, If you see him, do not approach and call 911.

Additional information will be provided when it becomes available. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 902-490-5020.
