RCMP/Halifax Regional Police charged 42 drivers with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle in September 2013.

An additional 23 drivers were issued driving suspensions for operating a motor vehicle having consumed alcohol. Of these drivers, 54 were male, 11 were female, and ages ranged from 19 to 58 years of age. Six drivers were identified at motor vehicle collisions and 27 drivers were detected at traffic stops. Another 17 drivers were found impaired at checkpoints. Members of the public continue to call 911 and alerted police to 15 impaired drivers.

Officers were able to detect and charge persons at a wide range of BAC’s from 110-350 mg%. Eight of the charged persons were more than two times the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 ml of blood and two others were more than three times the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. One driver was more than four times the legal limit. Eight of the charged persons refused to provide samples and were charged with the offence of refusal.
