As a follow-up to today’s Board of Police Commissioners’ meeting, HRM Partners in Policing are releasing the 2013 third quarter crime statistics. Overall crime is down over 10 per cent when comparing the first three quarters of 2013 to the same period in 2012.
Violent crime is down eight per cent and homicides are down with a decrease of four compared to the same period last year. Attempted homicides are up with 27 so far this year versus 18 for the same period last year (50 per cent increase). Robberies are down 21 per cent and assaults are also down over 7 per cent. Property crime has fallen over 10 per cent, with decreases in break and enters (13.3 per cent), and stolen motor vehicles (7 per cent). Thefts over $5,000 are also down with a 35 per cent decrease. Frauds have however increased by over 16 per cent.
