Police remind citizens to check candy following two Halloween tampering incidents
Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are investigating two chocolate bar tampering incidents in Dartmouth.
At 1:43 p.m. on November 1, Halifax Regional Police received a suspicious circumstance call on Russel Street in Dartmouth. A parent was going through her children’s Halloween candy when she found a straight pin inserted inside the wrapper of a chocolate bar. The girl had been trick-or-treating in the area of Russell Street, Wyse and Victoria Roads and surrounding streets.
At 3:46 p.m. on November 2, police received a suspicious circumstance call on Hare Lane in Dartmouth. A 14-year-old girl was going through her Halloween candy when she found a straight pin inserted inside the wrapper of a chocolate bar. The girl had been trick-or-treating in the area of Crichton Park.
The Forensic Identification Section will examine the candy bars for any evidence and continue with the investigations.
Police encourage parents and children to be vigilant in continuing to check all Halloween candy gathered and to report any incidents of candy tampering to police.
