Halifax Regional Police (HRP) are reminding citizens to remove all valuables from their vehicles to help reduce the risk of having their vehicle windows smashed and items stolen. Recently, there has been a rash of thefts from motor vehicles in the Burnside area.
Since January 8, HRP has received five reports of items stolen from inside unattended vehicles that were parked at 202 Brownlow Avenue’s fitness facility. These thefts occurred in the evening and early morning hours. In all instances, vehicle windows were broken and valuables removed from the vehicle.
By following some straightforward safety tips, and working together, we can reduce this type of crime in our community.
- Citizens should remove all valuables from vehicle (e.g. purses, wallets, laptops, GPS devices, cell phone chargers or other equipment that appears valuable). Anything on display – even loose change or sunglasses – can tempt would-be thieves.
• Always lock your vehicle.
• Park in a well-lit & well-travelled area.
East patrol officers will be focussing efforts in the area.
Anyone who had items stolen from their vehicles are asked to report to police by calling 902-490-5016.
Anyone who sees suspicious persons or activities near a vehicle is asked to call police immediately at 902-490-5020. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
