Police Remind Motorists to Avoid Parking in Bike Lanes

Release:
HRM Partners in Policing are reminding motorists to avoid parking in bike lanes.
As of June 1, 2011, parking in a bike lane is prohibited by Section 43 (2) of the Motor Vehicle Act. Recently, police have responded to complaints in the area of St. Margaret’s Bay Road near Long Lake, between the North West Arm overpass and Prospect Road, resulting in a number of tickets being issued.
Motorists are reminded that they must park their vehicles completely outside of the bike lane to avoid being ticketed. Fines for parking in a bike lane start at $57.96.
