Halifax Regional Police are asking for help finding a man they say climbed into a stranger’s car at a Dartmouth gas station, threatened her with a needle and made her drive him to an ATM.
It happened on the evening of Sept. 21, more than two weeks before police went public with the case on Oct. 7. According to police, a woman was parked at the Esso at 174 Ochterloney St. around 7:45 p.m. when a man she didn’t know approached her vehicle and got in.
Police allege he threatened her with a needle and demanded she drive to an ATM for cash. He then had her drive him into downtown Dartmouth, where he got out and left with the money. The woman wasn’t physically hurt.
Police describe the man as white, with long light brown hair and a beard. That night he was wearing a thin black jacket over a black hoodie, black pants, gloves, a blue bandana, and grey and white sneakers. Police have released photos of him.
Investigators are especially interested in video. If you have a home or business camera between Ochterloney Street and downtown Dartmouth, footage from that evening could help.
The Integrated General Investigation Section is handling the case. Anyone who recognizes the man or has video can call police at 902-490-5020. To stay anonymous, contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, send a secure web tip, or use the P3 Tips app.
