Police seize firearms during search warrant execution

RCMP release:

Lunenburg District RCMP seized multiple firearms associated to a search warrant execution in Broad Cove.

On January 6, at approximately 6:55 a.m., Lunenburg District RCMP and Nova Scotia RCMP Police Dog Services responded to a home on Back Rd. for a report of threats involving a firearm. Officers attended the residence and safely arrested one woman for firearms offences. Officers seized two firearms, located in plain view inside the home.

Investigators then executed a search warrant at this location. During the search, officers found more firearms, none of which were safely stored. In total, officers seized six firearms, all of which are long guns, pending further investigation.

The 40-year-old Broad Cove woman was released by police on conditions pending a first court appearance at Bridgewater Provincial Court on March 4.

There are two ways to safely and lawfully store non-restricted firearms. The person in possession of the firearm must either attach a secure locking device, such as a trigger lock or cable lock so the firearms cannot be fired, or lock the firearms in a cabinet, container or room that is difficult to break into. The bolt can also be removed in lieu of attaching a locking device.
