Police seize marihuana and growing equipment from Lower Sackville residence

May 20, 2011, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) . . . The RCMP/HRP Integrated Drug Unit seized a large quantity of marijuana and growing equipment from a residence in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia.
On May 19, 2011 at approximately 11:00 a.m., police executed a search warrant at a residence on Lumsden Crescent in Lower Sackville.  They seized 312 marijuana plants, approximately 250 grams of dried marijuana packaged for resale, 15 vials of hash oil, growing equipment, scales and a quantity of cash.  The suspect has a medical license from Health Canada to grow marihuana and have 15 plants.  The grow operation encountered by police was considerably larger in size and scope.  It was considered a three stage operation with clones, vegetive and mature plants.
A 34-year-old male from Sackville will be appearing in court at a later date. He will face charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, including Section 7 (1) Cultivation of Marihuana; 7(1) Production of Marihuana Resin (hash oil) and 5(2) Possession of Marihuana.
HRM Partners in Policing remind citizens to report suspicious activity in their communities to police.  Signs of drug production in residential neighbourhoods include pungent, oily smells coming from a certain home or houses that appear to be mainly unoccupied with consistently drawn blinds and irregular vehicle traffic.  Police are requesting anyone who may have any information on suspected grow operations to contact any RCMP office, Halifax Regional Police, or Crime Stoppers anonymously anytime at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.  Calls to Crime Stoppers are not taped or traced.  If police make an arrest and lay charges based on a tip, callers qualify for a cash award from $50 – $2000.
