Police Service Dog Cento back in action, New Minas, N.S.

Police Dog Services (PDS) Cento is back on the job after a health scare in early July. On July 10, PDS Cento and his handler, Cpl. Glenn Brown, were on patrol in the New Minas area when the dog became ill.

Cpl. Brown took Cento to the Annapolis Animal Hospital where he was operated on to remove a piece of deer antler from his intestinal area. The piece of antler had not been in his system very long, but if it had not been removed it could have led to fatal consequences. He may have found and ate the deer antler during one of his many searches.

The surgery was very successful and Cento ended up making a full recovery. Born at the RCMP Dog Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta, Cento turned five on August 8. Now that he is feeling better, he is back on duty and has already helped locate a family that was lost in a wooded area outside Greenwood. He has also resumed his favourite summer activity of swimming!
