Yesterday at approximately 6 p.m. an SUV travelling northbound on the Bedford Highway near Tremont Drive crossed the centre line and struck an unmarked police vehicle that was travelling southbound. The SUV then struck a telephone pole.
The investigation determined that the driver, a 38-year-old woman from Dartmouth, suffered a medical issue prior to the collision. She was transported to the hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the police vehicle, a 38-year-old officer with nine years of service, attended the hospital after the collision for a medical assessment and the passenger, a 45-year-old officer with ten years of service, was not injured. The passenger side of the police vehicle sustained extensive damage.
The investigation is ongoing, charges are not expected.
