Police warn about fraudulent airline scam

 

March 21, 2012, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) . . . Police have received reports of a fraudulent airline scam occurring in Nova Scotia.
On March 14th, 2012, two suspicious males entered a business in Lower Sackville selling promotional flights for Porter Airlines at $50.00 each for a trip to one of four destinations in Canada.  On March 15th, 2012, two suspicious males (believed to be the same as in the previously mentioned incident) entered a business in New Minas selling the same promotion.  The promotional cards look legitimate using the airline’s company name, colours and logos.  Investigators have contacted the airline who are aware of the scam; they report they do not canvass door to door, or to businesses.
The first suspect is described as male, Middle Eastern, early to mid-forties, average build, 5’9″ tall, wearing a suit with a blue hat with Porter Promotions embroidered on the hat.  The second male is described as Caucasian, early to mid-forties, average build, 6’2 ” tall, wearing a golf shirt and pants., and this male does most of the talking.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen these suspicious males in the area to contact police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477 ), texting TIP202 + your message to ‘CRIMES’ (274637) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca. Calls to Crime Stoppers are not taped or traced and if police make an arrest and lay charges based on a tip, callers qualify for a cash reward from $50 – $2000.
