Residents are invited to attend an official unveiling and artist talk for the Prospect Road Community Centre Public Art installation on Saturday, April 23 from 7- 9 p.m.
The artwork is a collaboration between artists Ivan Murphy and Norbert Sattler. The piece was commissioned by Halifax Regional Municipality through a public solicitation and peer jury selection process as part of HRMs mandate to provide public art as a component of all future municipal building projects. HRM partnered with the Prospect Road Community Centre and the Resource Opportunities Centre to commission the artwork.
The piece is a dynamic installation combining elements of glasswork, painting and both natural and artificial lighting. It has been installed in three separate locations along the ‘indoor community street’ of the community centre. Each of the panels in the piece are comprised of alternating layers of painting employing obscured typographic/symbolic elements and abstraction techniques, both referential to the particular areas serviced by the Prospect Road Community Centre.
