Premier Stephen McNeil today, Nov. 7, announced Jacques Lapointe will retire Jan. 31, 2014. Mr. Lapointe has served as Nova Scotia’s Auditor General since 2006.
“I sincerely thank Mr. Lapointe for his service to the province of Nova Scotia,” said Premier McNeil.
“He has consistently delivered on his mandate to ensure taxpayers’ money is spent efficiently, openly and for the purposes intended.”
The recruitment process for a new auditor general will begin shortly.
Under the province’s Auditor General Act, the Governor in Council appoints a person to be the auditor general, subject to the approval of the House of Assembly by majority vote. The auditor general shall hold office for a term of 10 years and may not be reappointed.
