Premier Appoints Deputy Minister

Premier Darrell Dexter today, Aug. 29, announced the appointment of Lynn Hartwell as deputy minister of the Department of Community Services.

“Nova Scotians, particularly those in need, will be well served by Ms.

Hartwell’s leadership and experience,” said Premier Dexter. “The Community Services Department oversees services that are crucial to Nova Scotians and key to the social prosperity of the province. Ms. Hartwell is a capable and consultative leader for a department with such an important mandate.”

Ms. Hartwell most recently led the province’s response to sexual violence and bullying, as well as community engagement around changes to services for persons with disabilities.

Ms. Hartwell has worked for the province for 15 years, holding key positions with the Departments of Justice, Labour and Advanced Education and Community Services. Most recently she was associate deputy minister of Community Services.

The appointment is effective Sept. 3.
