Premier Stephen McNeil was focused on the priorities of Nova Scotians during his inaugural meeting with Canada’s premiers today, Nov. 15, in Toronto.

“I enjoyed meeting my colleagues, hearing their concerns and letting them know that I look forward to working with them on shared issues that are important to Nova Scotians and all Canadians,” said Premier McNeil.

Proposed federal changes to skills training programs were at the top of the agenda as the premiers engaged in a full day of discussion at the Council of the Federation meeting.

Premier McNeil was encouraged by the premiers’ united commitment to skills training.

“Our skills and training programs are proven and connect Nova Scotians to jobs. I am concerned an untested federal program could pull funding away from our ability to put more Nova Scotians to work,” the Premier said.

Premier McNeil also engaged in bilateral discussions with other premiers on issues including immigration and energy.
