Premier Visits Boston to Enhance Business

Premier Stephen McNeil is leading a delegation to Boston to promote opportunities in Nova Scotia to business leaders in New England.

“I’m going to Boston to develop and enhance business relations with the city and all of New England,” said Premier McNeil. “I will be telling local business leaders that Nova Scotia has great opportunities for partnership in key sectors, including seafood and food products, tourism, energy and transportation.”

For the premier’s two-day visit, beginning Thursday, Dec. 4, government has established a temporary office and public venue in downtown Boston, called Nova Scotia House. The venue enables Bostonians to experience what Nova Scotia has to offer from the business, trade, immigration and education perspectives and as a tourism destination.

The premier’s visit includes promotion of the province as a top destination for post-secondary learning, along with showcasing Nova Scotia food and seafood to Boston area chefs, restaurants and food buyers.

His schedule includes nearly 20 events, including:
— the official opening of Nova Scotia House with Boston Mayor Martin Walsh
— a knowledge economy roundtable with Nova Scotian graduates of MIT and Harvard, focusing on how Nova Scotia can support a knowledge economy by leveraging networks and decision makers in the Boston area
— the Boston tree lighting ceremony
— an address to the New England-Canada Business Council luncheon
— participation in Discover Business Opportunities in Boston, a joint trade initiative between Nova Scotia Business Inc. and ACOA
— a venture capitalists’ round table focusing on business start-ups and investment at the Cambridge Innovation Centre and a tour of the Canadian Technology Accelerator

“We are honoured to be in Boston at the same time as the annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony, but this is a far-reaching effort to raise the profile of Nova Scotia in the New England region’s business and venture capital communities,” said Premier McNeil.
