Product recall – Sage topical skin products or pre-surgical wipes

Patients who have been issued any Sage® topical skin products or pre-surgical wipes in Nova Scotia are advised to discard those products, some of which have been recalled worldwide by their manufacturer.

Sage Products has recalled a series of products due to potential microbial contamination.  All product impacted by the recall will have an expiry date between August 2016 and August 2018. Any product with an expiry date of September 20‎18 or later is new product that is safe to use. There is no confirmation that cases or lots in Canada have been compromised. However, Nova Scotia Health Authority advises patients to check these products and discard if the expiry date is before September 2018. Unless patients have been provided with an alternative solution, patients should shower the night before and/or morning of their surgery using a new bar of soap, ensure skin is dried thoroughly and wear a clean set of clothing.
