Project Grants to Support Publishers and Nova Scotian literature

Arts Nova Scotia and the provincial government are helping Nova Scotia publishers produce literary work and discover new talent.

The Project Grants for Publishing Program is a new $150,000 fund that will support publishers to produce new literary work, help an author tour or make a public appearance, kick-start new work by a Nova Scotian literary artist and more.

“Publishing plays an important role in celebrating our arts community and moving Nova Scotian literature forward,” said Tony Ince, Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage. “This program will help publishers and their authors explore new opportunities for literary work and community engagement.”

Eligible Nova Scotia publishers can apply for three different grants, which range from $5,000 to $15,000.

The program will be managed and delivered by Arts Nova Scotia and was designed in consultation with Nova Scotia publishers.

“We recognize the cultural value of literary arts,” said Mary Elizabeth Luka, chair of Arts Nova Scotia. “It’s important that we help Nova Scotia publishers and literary artists create, produce and share their creative work.”

The deadline to apply for the program is Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017.
