Prom dress donations needed for Spryfield high school students

My CBC colleague Catharine Tunney did a story (my suggestion!) on the Chebucto Connections program collecting prom dresses for their Pathways to Education students this year. Here’s the link to the video: http://www.cbc.ca/player/News/Canada/NS/ID/2447622739/

(Sorry, I wish I knew how to embed it but I’m just not that good yet)
This is quite important to the students because prom dresses can cost anywhere between 400 and 800 dollars, which is a huge burden on families.
So far they’ve collected about 30 new or worn-once dresses, and are still looking for more. The original idea was to collect for the Pathways kids, but if there are enough dresses are donated, they’ll be made available to all students.
Dress donations can be dropped off at the Chebucto Connections office at 531 Herring Cove road, or call (902) 477-0964 or email info@chebuctoconnections.ca
It’s important to note that the program is also collecting suits for male students (another big expense, though usually rented), and those can be dropped off at JL Ilsley high school.
Now that I think about it, why the heck aren’t prom and dresses rentable too? It makes no sense to buy something so expensive that you’re only going to use once.
