Proof of vaccination, gathering size restrictions and mandatory masks at Oval

The Emera Oval is expected to open for the 2021-22 winter season on Monday, December 20, weather and ice conditions permitting.

Residents must show full proof of COVID-19 vaccination and government issued photo identification, as well as wear a non-medical mask at all times including on the ice and in the Oval Pavilion.

In consultation with public health, the maximum capacity will be 230 participants, per skate time. Access will be provided on a first-come-first-serve basis until the maximum capacity has been reached.

Group bookings will not be accommodated until further notice.

Equipment rentals, including skates and helmets, will continue to be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. However, residents are encouraged to bring their own equipment, where possible. CSA-approved multi-impact hockey helmets are mandatory for children 12 years of age and under however, all skaters are encouraged to wear a helmet, for their own safety. Please note red skating helpers will not be available this season. 

Staff will continue to work with public health to adjust protocols on an as-needed basis to ensure safety of participants and staff.

The Emera Oval is the largest artificial ice surface east of Quebec – approximately 55,000 square feet of ice, or the same as three NHL hockey rinks. The ice surface will be open for free daily public skates throughout the winter.
