Property Tax Rebate Program Open to Eligible Seniors

Government’s Seniors’ Property Tax Rebate program, which provides seniors with up to $800 to help them live in their home longer, is accepting applications.

The program is for seniors who receive the federal Guaranteed Income Supplement, own and live in their own homes, and have paid their previous year’s property taxes in full.

“Extra help with household expenses can make a tremendous difference to seniors on fixed incomes,” said Community Services Minister Joanne Bernard. “The Seniors’ Property Tax Rebate helps over 15,000 seniors continue to live independently.”

Most seniors who have received the tax rebate before will have a renewal form sent to their homes. Some who received rebates in the past might not get an application directly. Eligible seniors are encouraged to get and complete an application as soon as possible.

Applications are available at Access Nova Scotia, MLA offices, online through the I Want To drop-down menu at http://novascotia.ca or by phone at 1-800-670-4357.
