Provincial Appointments to Offshore Petroleum Board

Two Nova Scotia appointments that bring a combined 60 years of relevant experience to the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board were approved today, Feb. 23, by the province’s standing committee on human resources.

Appointed were Roger Percy as provincial member and Harold Giddens as alternate provincial member. Both appointments are for six years and require Order in Council approval before they are effective.

“The board plays a critical role in the responsible development and oversight of our offshore and having knowledgeable, experienced leaders at the board level as our offshore continues to grow is essential,” said Lloyd Hines, acting Energy Minister. “With these new members, the board will be at full complement and we will have continuity for the next several years.”

Mr. Percy has more than 30 years of experience in the environmental and emergency response field with extensive experience in managing environmental projects. This includes managing the Atlantic Region Environmental Emergency Program for almost 20 years and providing environmental support to offshore incidents and emergency response programs.

Mr. Giddens has worked in the offshore oil and gas industry for more than 30 years with a focus on safety. He has experience in managing projects in Atlantic Canada’s offshore, developing guidelines for offshore boards and supporting the development of industry standards in Canada and internationally.

The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board is the independent joint agency of the Governments of Canada and Nova Scotia responsible for the regulation of petroleum activities in the Nova Scotia offshore area.
