Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is asking residents to refrain from parking on select streets in downtown Halifax and Dartmouth tonight to assist with overnight snow removal.
The municipal overnight winter parking ban has been lifted until further notice to allow residents to park in areas where crews won’t be undertaking snow clearing operations.
Barricades will be placed at the end of the streets where this snow removal work will take place. Traffic will be permitted to travel through but there will be no parking. Tonight crews will focus on removing snow from the following streets:
- Argyle Street from Prince Street to Blowers Street
- Blowers Street from Market Street to Granville Street
- Portland Street from Dundas Street to Victoria Road
- Queen Street (Dartmouth) from Alderney Drive to Irishtown Road
- Spring Garden Road from South Park Street to Dresden Row (time permitting)
Residents are asked to move their vehicles off the street in those areas between 11 p.m. tonight and 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12. Residents are reminded that under Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act, vehicles can be ticketed and towed any time of the day or night if they are obstructing snow clearing.
Rather than waiting for snow to accumulate, the municipality is taking a more proactive approach by removing snow in problem areas in between weather events. This will help maintain parking in the business districts and ensure emergency vehicles, buses and other traffic can safely access the streets throughout the winter.
