Road Closure – Northbound Barrington Ramp from Cogswell Street

Location: Northbound ramp from Cogswell Street to Barrington Street in the Cogswell District

Date: Effective Monday, March 28

Time: 24/7

Work details: This work is in preparation of a by-pass road<www.halifax.ca/about-halifax/regional-community-planning/construction-projects/cogswell-district-redevelopment-2> in support of the Cogswell District project<www.halifax.ca/about-halifax/regional-community-planning/construction-projects/cogswell-district-redevelopment-0>. This by-pass road<www.halifax.ca/about-halifax/regional-community-planning/construction-projects/cogswell-district-redevelopment-2> is expected to be in place in Spring 2022.

Traffic impact: The northbound ramp from Cogswell Street to Barrington Street in the Cogswell District will be permanently closed (see attached map #1). Motorists will maintain northbound access via Barrington Street to George Street and then northbound on Lower Water Street through the interchange (see attached map #2). Halifax Transit will be detouring outbound only on Routes 2 and 84. Stop 6590 Duke Street before Albemarle Street will be closed to service for both routes. For those passengers on the Route 2, as an alternative to Stop 6590 Duke Street before Albemarle Street, passengers should use the Stop 6087 – Barrington Street at Scotia Square Bay 1, on the side of buses travelling northbound – opposite Scotia Square, in order to travel in the direction of Fairview. Route 84, travelling in the direction of Glendale, will continue to depart from Scotia Square in its regular location but will travel via George Street and Upper Water Street, instead of turning right on to Duke Street. Those passengers that normally use Stop 6590 Duke Street before Albemarle Street for Route 84, should instead use Stop 6108 – Barrington Street at Scotia Square Bay 3, on the side of buses travelling southbound (on the side of Scotia Square). In addition, Route 84 will now serve stop 6733 George Street before Hollis Street for outbound passengers.
