Public Events to Celebrate Nova Scotia Heritage and Artistic Excellence


Nova Scotians are invited to attend the 2018 fall Evenings at Government House public event series hosted by Lieutenant Governor Arthur J. LeBlanc.

The events includes a wide-ranging series of performances and presentations that illustrate the history and talents of Nova Scotians.

“Patsy and I are delighted to once again host Evenings at Government House this fall and welcome everyone to the ceremonial home of all Nova Scotians,” said Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc. “These public events are a wonderful opportunity to showcase emerging and established artists as well as learn about and reflect upon the Great War as we approach the centenary of its conclusion.”

All events will be held at Government House, 1451 Barrington St., Halifax. The events are free and people must register online at http://lt.gov.ns.ca or by calling 902-424-7001.

Registration for each event will open two weeks before, on a first-come first-served basis. Visit http://lt.gov.ns.ca for further details.

Scheduled events are:
— in conjunction with the Nova Scotia Talent Trust, nine-year-old pianist Alex Yang, a silver medalist at the Canadian Music Competition, will give a piano recital, Tuesday, Sep. 18, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
— the Nova Scotia Potters Guild will give a presentation on its ceramics exhibition entitled Quaff: To Drink Deeply that is on display at Government House, Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
— a musical performance by Daniel Walker in association with the Halifax Pop Explosion, Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
— a presentation by Halifax Army Museum Chief Curator Major (retired) Ken Hynes on the Last Steps Memorial Arch in Halifax, the Canada Gate at Passchendaele, and the enduring link between Belgium and Canada, Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
— a presentation by author and historian Colonel (retired) John Boileau on armistice and remembrance, Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
— presentation to be announced at a later date, Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
