Public parking no longer available in the lot behind Halifax Central Library

Wednesday, July 29, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – As of Thursday, July 30 there will no longer be public parking in the open-air lot on Queen Street, behind the Halifax Central Library.

The city has sold the property to Dalhousie University.

Parking on the Queen Street lot was originally offered free of charge to shoppers and library customers last December to ease the parking pressures with the opening of the new Halifax Central Library, and peak holiday shopping.

The municipality then extended the free parking until such time as the property was sold.

The Halifax Central Library underground parking lot remains available to the public during library hours. While currently free of charge, motorists will soon be charged an hourly rate.

Dalhousie University will be installing signage at the entrance to the lot on July 30, stating Dalhousie University is the property owner and that a valid Dalhousie parking permit will be required.

The lot will be closed for a few weeks during this transition.
