The number of reports of discoloured water in the Bedford, Sackville and Waverley areas has dropped over the last 48 hours, though some customers continue to experience discoloured water. This is the result of a valve malfunction on a water transmission main which occurred late Monday afternoon. High water flows due to the valve malfunction resulted in discoloured water.
Halifax Water crews continue to actively sample and flush the system throughout the affected areas and the water remains bacteriologically safe to drink. As this is a widespread water system issue, running cold water for a period of time may not clear your internal plumbing. Until the water clears, which is anticipated to be 24-48 hours we recommend that customers avoid washing light coloured clothes.
We apologize for any inconvenience customers are experiencing.
