Public Service Announcement
Extended services for tree waste disposal
Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 18 the Halifax Regional Municipality will be opening five new debris disposal sites for the public to drop-off residential tree waste as a result of Hurricane Dorian.
Short-term municipal sites:
- 2 Lyle Street, Dartmouth
- 144 Thornhill Drive, Dartmouth
- 26 Thomas Raddall Drive, Halifax
- 50 Cheviot Hill, Porters Lake
- Kinsac Ballfield (near 1703 Beaver Bank Road), Beaver Bank
Each location will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Wednesday, Sept. 25. There is no charge for using this service. Residents will be responsible for delivering and unloading all materials at these sites at their own risk. Note: Bags, construction debris or other waste will not be accepted at these locations.
Halifax C&D Recycling Ltd. sites:
- 16 Mills Dr. in Goodwood
- 188 Ross Rd. in Westphal
Halifax C&D Recycling Ltd. has extended its hours to receive residential tree waste, such as trunks, brush, branches and limbs. Hours of operation: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Friday, Sept. 20.
Tree waste will not be accepted via commercial roll-offs or tandem trucks. For construction and demolition debris, regular business hours of Halifax C&D Recycling Ltd. do apply.
To support residents, the municipality is covering fees at Halifax C&D locations.
Curbside collection of tree waste:
Residents can continue to put up to 10 armload sized bundles of tree waste curbside until the end of September as part of regular collection. No bundle of branches should exceed 75 lb (34 kg) and no individual piece be more than 4 feet long (1.2 m) or larger than 8 inches (0.2m) in diameter. This size limitation is due to what can fit in the collection vehicle and what can be processed by the equipment at the composting facilities.
