Public Service Announcement – Water Service Advisory – Flushing – Lake Major Water Supply System

Water Service Advisory – Flushing – Lake Major Water Supply System (except Burnside) (April 2, 2022) Halifax Water would like to advice customers serviced by the Lake Major Water supply system, that crews will be conducting hydrant flushing throughout Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3, 2022. This is necessary work to maintain high-quality water throughout Dartmouth, Cole Harbour, Eastern Passage, North Preston and Westphal. This will not impact the Burnside area. As part of this work, crews will be opening hydrants and releasing water to flush watermains in various parts of the system throughout the weekend. Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians may experience temporary impacts to traffic and sidewalk access during this period. As a result of this temporary, but essential maintenance on the system, Halifax Water is advising its water customers that there is the potential for discoloured water. Customers who experience discoloured water should run the COLD water at one faucet for about 10 minutes. You should see the water clear. Do not use the hot water faucet since this will draw discoloured water into your hot water heater/tank, which could make the problem worse. If the water fails to clear after 10 minutes, wait for a few hours and again try running only the cold water. To ensure the safety of our communities and our staff, please maintain a safe distance when Halifax Water staff or contractors are working in your area.
