Pugwash hospital to be replaced

A new hospital in Pugwash will mean better access to health care for residents in the North Cumberland region.

Government and Nova Scotia Health Authority are moving ahead with plans to replace the North Cumberland Memorial Hospital.

Health and Wellness Minister Randy Delorey was in Pugwash today, Sept. 29, to unveil a sign on the new hospital’s future site.

“We are making the infrastructure investments we need for a healthier province,” said Mr. Delorey. “Building a modern hospital will allow us to better meet the needs of the community for years to come.”

The new facility will include primary, urgent and outpatient care, laboratory and diagnostic imaging services, outpatient clinics like physiotherapy and inpatient/palliative care for residents of Pugwash and surrounding communities.

Government will invest $25.5 million to complete the remaining design work, finalize the land acquisition, build the facility and a new helicopter pad.

Quotes:
“This new facility will support the provision of ongoing health care here in Pugwash and surrounding area and meet both the community’s current needs as well as those for decades to come. It will also be an important asset in our efforts to recruit health care professionals to the area.”
