Quinpool Road’s Annual Pet Parade

A Very Green Pet Parade

On Saturday, November 30th, pups, dogs, hounds and pooches dressed in their finest holiday attire including reindeer antlers, Santa hats, ugly Christmas sweaters, jingle bells and tutus will take over Quinpool Road as they take a stroll down the street during Quinpool Road’s Annual Pet Parade.

The parade has become such a popular Holiday event for residents in the area that the start and end point of the parade has been moved to a larger location, on the grounds of Sir Charles Tupper Elementary School, 1930 Cambridge Street.

Starting at 12:30pm, before the parade, Quinpool Rhoda, her dear friend Santa Claus and one of her newest friends Rover, from the Halifax Wanderers will be on site for photo ops. The first 30 people to arrive will receive a free small pizza coupon courtesy of Freeman’s Little New York. Halifax Veterinary Hospital will be awarding a prize to the best dressed pet and Links of Love will be selling bracelets and the SPCA will be selling dog treats, scarves and water bottles.

At 1pm, the parade will start with Quinpool Rhoda, Santa Claus, Rover and an HRM Police Officer, leading the pups and their owners to Beech Street and proceeding down Quinpool Road to Robie, where we will cross over and come back down Quinpool Road on the North side and then back down Beech Street to Sir Charles Tupper School

“We are not aware of any other Holiday Pet Parades taking place in the city. Quinpool Road is very pet friendly, a lot of the merchants are animal lovers, and many of the people who live in the community enjoy walking their dogs on Quinpool Road”, says Quinpool Road Mainstreet District’s Association’s Executive Director, Karla Nicholson. “This will be a very green parade, no vehicles or gas emissions – just pets and their people”. “And this year promises to be our best turn out yet.”

Immediately following the Pet Parade, Halifax Veterinary Hospital, (6485 Quinpool Road) will host the SPCA Santa Pics from 2 to 4 pm. Owners can have their pet’s photo taken by a professional photographer with Santa at a cost of $10.00 for a digital copy All proceeds go to the SPCA for animals in need. The first 30 people in line will receive a free doggy treat for their fur baby and a coffee coupon for them courtesy of Dilly Dally Coffee Café!
