Racial Pepper Spraying (In Traffic), Officers Shot At And More: Busy Night For HRPD

One heck of a crazy night for Halifax Police in the city.  Read on for the report.

MVA (Fatality)  Spring Garden Rd, Halifax

At 5:30 p.m. a motorcyclist collided with a mini van on Spring Garden Rd near Summer St, Halifax. The motorcyclist was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. No other injuries resulted.  HRP’s Accident Investigation Unit and IDENT Unit were called out to assist with the investigation. The cause of the accident has yet to be determined.

The identity of the victim is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.

Unlawfully in a dwelling Pine Hill Rd, Dartmouth

At 5:30 p.m. the resident of this location discovered an unknown man having a shower in her home. The resident called HRP and the man was arrested quickly by officers a short distance away.
The Dartmouth man is being held in custody to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Monday charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling and breaching both a Recognizance Order and an Undertaking.

Assault with a weapon (Pepper spray)  South Park St/ Spring Garden Rd, Halifax

At 10:11 p.m. HRP was advised that a male driver had been sprayed with pepper spray at this location. The victim while driving on South Park St, was called a racial slur by another driver and then sprayed in the face with pepper spray. The victim was able to provide a suspect and vehicle description and subsequently he was located nearby and arrested. The victims injuries are minor and were treated on scene by EHS. The vehicle was searched and the pepper spray was recovered along with a small quantity of marijuana.

A Halifax man is being held in custody to appear in Halifax Provincial Court facing charges of assault with a weapon (pepper spray), possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.

Assault with weapon( bottle)  King St., Dartmouth

At 3:14 a.m. HRP was advised that there was a disturbance on the street outside this location. When patrol officers arrived they located an unconscious man lying in the roadway. The man was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Four suspects left the area and are all described as white males. One male was described as wearing no shirt, approximately 20 yrs old, medium build, 150-160 lbs wearing blue jeans. A man was arrested a short time later and is currently being interviewed. The matter remains under investigation at this time.

Weapons  HRP 1500 block of Hollis St., Halifax

Beat members were patrolling in this area and were shot at with pellets. Members were able to link the pellet fire back to an adjacent apartment and subsequently arrested a man inside. The pellet pistol was also recovered. No one was injured. The Halifax man was released on a Promise to Appear and Undertaking to appear in Halifax Provincial Court Monday at a later date charged with four counts of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon.

Assault with a weapon (knife)  5100 block of Sackville St., Halifax

At 3:46 a.m. HRP was advised that a male had been stabbed outside this location. The victim left in a cab prior to police arrival to seek medical attention. Injuries are not believed to be life threatening. A man was arrested a short distance away and is currently being interviewed. A knife has also been recovered.  The matter remains under investigation.
