RCMP advise public of rash of boat motor thefts, Lunenburg County, N.S.

Lunenburg County RCMP are investigating several boat motor thefts from Northwest Cove, East Chester, and the Deep Cove areas.

The motors are being taken from boats attached to the floating docks.

In one incident, a 10′ Zodiac inflatable boat was stolen along with a nearby outboard motor. Boat motors that are secured with locking mechanisms are not being taken. Police are urging the public to take necessary preventative measures such as using locking devices to protect their property. Police also recommend, where possible, removing boat motors during over night hours and docking boats in well lit high visibility areas.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in these areas or have knowledge of the items being sold to contact them. Callers can contact any RCMP office, Halifax Regional Police or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS ( 8477 ), texting TIP202 + your message to ‘CRIMES’ (274637) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca . Calls to Crime Stoppers are not taped or traced and if police make an arrest and lay charges based on a tip, callers qualify for a cash reward from $50 – $2000.
