RCMP and citizens rescue driver from partially submerged vehicle

 Gold River, Nova Scotia

Prior to 6 p.m. on November 3, Lunenburg District RCMP observed a vehicle travelling on Highway 3 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle, a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan, was clocked at 130 km/hr in a 70 km/hr zone. The officer turned to conduct a traffic stop, however the vehicle was no longer visible. While patrolling the area, the officer was flagged down by citizens, who advised that the same vehicle had gone off the highway and entered the ocean.

The officer and the three citizens entered the waist-high water as the partially submerged vehicle appeared to be sinking. They removed the 33-year-old woman from the vehicle, which was located approximately 20 meters from shore. She was later transported to hospital by EHS with non-life threatening injuries. She was the only occupant in the vehicle.

“The quick actions of the citizens and our officer helped save a life today,” says RCMP Staff Sergeant Stephen MacQueen, District Commander of Lunenburg County District.

The investigation is continuing.
