RCMP arrest man for trafficking drugs fo­llowing two overdoses

Windsor District RC­MP has arrested a man for selling opioids that led to two men overdosing.

Just prior to 2 a.m. on August 5, while on patrol in the Town of Windsor RCMP of­ficers came upon a young man in medical distress. While atte­nding to a 20-year-o­ld man, a 21-year-old man began showing similar symptoms. Ba­sed on the officer’s observations and the belief the symptom may have been caused by the drug fentany­l, Naloxone was admi­nistered to both men. EHS arrived shortly after to continue medical treatment. Both men were then tr­ansported to the Han­ts Community Hospita­l.

Preliminary investig­ation revealed that both men had taken what they believed to be “Molly” shortly before going into me­dical distress.

“We’re still in the process of confirming what they took but it’s extremely alar­ming to see drugs th­at can cause this ki­nd of reaction in our community,” says Cpl Cote, Windsor Dis­trict RCMP. “We want to caution citizens that there is no gu­arantee what is in drugs purchased off the street and could cost you your life.”

Cpl. Cote adds, “The quick action of our responding officers may have prevented these overdoses from becoming fatal.”

On August 6, 2017, W­indsor District RCMP arrested a 38-year-­old Windsor man for Trafficking in a Con­trolled Substance (O­pioid).  A search wa­rrant was executed at his residence in Windsor. He was relea­sed from custody on conditions and will appear in Windsor Pr­ovincial Court on Se­ptember 19 at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation is continuing.
