RCMP Arrest Suspected Shoplifter for Assault and Weapon-related Offenses

Police have arrested a shoplifter who threatened and assaulted bystanders then resisted arrest.

At 9:50 p.m. on March 17, Cole Harbour RCMP and Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of assault at a business in the 900 block of Cole Harbour Rd. in Cole Harbour.

Officers arrived on-scene and found bystanders detaining a shoplifter who had attempted to flee with $700 worth of stolen items.

A 38-year-old man from Dartmouth was arrested and held in police custody overnight.  He will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to answer to the following charges:
Theft under $5,000
Possession of property obtained by crime
Resisting arrest/obstruction of justice
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Three counts of assault with a weapon
Four counts of failure to comply with a recognizance
Two counts of failure to comply with a probation order
