Bible Hill, Nova Scotia
Members of RCMP Traffic Services and Colchester District were conducting a checkpoint near the train overpass on Main St. in Bible Hill at 1:19 a.m. on Saturday morning. A vehicle approached the area at a high rate of speed, hit the concrete centre support of the overpass and failed to stop for the police officers, who were on foot near their vehicles. Two RCMP officers had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck. The suspect vehicle then continued down Pictou Rd. where it left the roadway and came to a stop.
RCMP officers located the vehicle and arrested the driver. He had a minor injury and was taken by police to the local hospital where he was treated and released. The driver, a 44-year-old man from Valley, is facing charges of Impaired Driving, Driving with a Blood Alcohol Content over 80mg%, and Dangerous Driving. He was released from custody later that day and is scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court on May 17.
