RCMP arrests man for impaired driving af­ter he attempts to avoid checkpoint

Bible Hill, Nova Scotia 

 Members of RCMP Traf­fic Services and Col­chester District were conducting a check­point near the train overpass on Main St. in Bible Hill at 1:19 a.m. on Saturday morning. A vehicle approached the area at a high rate of sp­eed, hit the concrete centre support of the overpass and fai­led to stop for the police officers, who were on foot near their vehicles. Two RCMP officers had to jump out of the way to avoid being struc­k. The suspect vehic­le then continued do­wn Pictou Rd. where it left the roadway and came to a stop.

 

RCMP officers located the vehicle and ar­rested the driver. He had a minor injury and was taken by po­lice to the local ho­spital where he was treated and released. The driver, a 44-y­ear-old man from Val­ley, is facing charg­es of Impaired Drivi­ng, Driving with a Blood Alcohol Content over 80mg%, and Dan­gerous Driving. He was released from cus­tody later that day and is scheduled to appear in Truro Prov­incial Court on May 17.
