RCMP charge man after firearm incident, Cape Breton County, N.S.

RCMP have charged one man after a disturbance in Eskasoni.

Yesterday, 9:26 p.m., RCMP received a 911 call that a dispute had occurred at a residence on Flag Root Lane.

An intoxicated male threatened harm to a female and was in possession of a firearm. The 37-year-old female managed to leave the residence with her children unharmed.

Police confirmed that the man had been drinking all day was in possession of a rifle and was presently still in the home. Officers set up containment of the area and evacuated nearby residents. Attempts were made to communicate with the man but were unsuccessful. At 11:47 p.m., police entered the home and arrested the man without incident and seized a firearm. No one was injured.

The 48-year-old man from Eskasoni remained in custody overnight and will be remanded to appear in Sydney Provincial Court on November 12th. He will be facing several charges under the Criminal Code including Pointing a Firearm, Utter Death Threat, Use of a Firearm in Commission of an Offence and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm.
