RCMP charge three people in connection with thefts from vehicles, New Minas, N.S.

On June 24 at 5:08 am, Kings District RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious person trying to break into a vehicle. Police attended and as a result of an investigation, arrested three males in the area.

Preliminary investigation determined that three vehicles had been broken into. Items taken included Prescription drugs, a large amount of change, sunglasses and a pair of binoculars. These items were recovered by RCMP. The three males, all from the Kentville area, have been charged with a total of 38 offences, from the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Kolby Luke Jordan, age 20, is charged with the following offences:

Fail to Comply with a Probation Order X2
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Possession of Break in Instruments
Theft from a Motor Vehicle under $5000 X3
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime less than $5000 X3
Resists/Obstructs Police Officer
Trespass at Night X3
Mischief to property

Chance Christopher Johnstone, age 18, is charged with the following offences:

Possession of a Controlled Substance
Possession of Break in Instruments
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime less than $5000 X3
Theft from a Motor Vehicle under $5000 X3
Trespass at Night X3

Nelson Owen Veinotte, age 20, is charges with the following offences:

Fail to Comply with an Undertaking
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Possession of Break in Instruments
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime less than $5000 X3
Theft from a Motor Vehicle under $5000 X3
Trespass at Night X3

All three males have been released on conditions. Jordan and Johnstone are set to appear at Kentville Provincial Court on July 20, 2015 and Vienotte is set to appear on August 13, 2015.

Police want to remind the public, that in many cases, thefts from vehicles are a crime of opportunity. The chances of it happening are greatly reduced by simply removing any valuables and locking the vehicle.
