Halifax District RCMP has charged an 18-year-old male driver with stunting.
Just before 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, RCMP observed a 2008 Mazda travelling at 137 km/h in a 70 km/h zone on Highway 7 – 67 km/h over the speed limit.
The driver was charged under section 163(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act with stunting, which occurs when a driver is going more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. The driver was also charged for not having liability insurance. His driver’s license was suspended for seven days and his vehicle was impounded. He could also face a fine of up to $2,422.50.
Halifax District RCMP want to remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injuries and fatal collisions on our roads. Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well. If you see someone driving unsafely on our roads, report it by calling RCMP at 902-490-5020 or 911.
