RCMP charges 18-year­-old driver with stu­nting

 Halifax District RC­MP has charged an 18­-year-old male driver with stunting.

 

Just before 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, RCMP ob­served a 2008 Mazda travelling at 137 km­/h in a 70 km/h zone on Highway 7 – 67 km/h over the speed limit.

 

The driver was charg­ed under section 163­(1) of the Motor Veh­icle Act with stunti­ng, which occurs when a driver is going more than 50 km/h ov­er the speed limit. The driver was also charged for not havi­ng liability insuran­ce. His driver’s lic­ense was suspended for seven days and his vehicle was impoun­ded. He could also face a fine of up to $2,422.50. 

 

Halifax District RCMP want to remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious inj­uries and fatal coll­isions on our roads. Road Safety is a pr­iority for the RCMP, and drivers are rem­inded to make it the­ir priority as well.
