RCMP Traffic Services have charged three motorcycle drivers with careless driving along Highway 102.
On July 21, a member of RCMP Traffic Services was responding to a serious collision with his lights and siren activated when the officer noticed a group of motorcycles travelling together at a high rate of speed. Some of the drivers slowed down when they saw the police vehicle, others exited off of the Highway and others continued at a high rate of speed. The RCMP officer took Exit 5 for Fall River and noticed three of the motorcycles he saw earlier ahead of him. The drivers were speeding, driving erratically and passing unsafely along Highway 2.
The motorcycles stopped at the roadblock that had been set up surrounding the collision scene. All three drivers were served Summary Office Tickets for Careless and Imprudent Driving under the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act, a charge which carries a fine of up to $1,200, six points, and a possible one-year driving suspension. A 27-year-old man from Cole Harbour, a 27-year-old man from Fall River, and a 27-year-old woman from Upper Tantallon, are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on October 6, 2017.
The investigation is ongoing.
