RCMP detains man for firearm and assault charges

Kings District RCMP has charged a man following an incident at a home in New Minas.

On January 3, 2024 at 2:15 p.m., Kings District RCMP members responded to an incident at a home in New Minas. RCMP officers learned that a man had threatened a woman known to him. During the encounter, the man also displayed a firearm.

RCMP officers arrived on scene, located the man outside the residence and safely arrested him. The woman did not suffer physical injuries.

During the course of the investigation, RCMP officers learned that the woman had been the victim of a serious assault in October of 2023.

Corrigan Bezanson, 23, has been charged with numerous offences including:

  • Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition;
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized;
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon;
  • Carrying a concealed weapon;
  • Careless use of a firearm;
  • Aggravated Assault;
  • Fail to comply with a release order (5 counts);
  • Tampering with serial number;
  • Uttering threats (2 counts).

Bezanson was remanded into custody yesterday and will return in Kentville Provincial Court on January 8, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
