RCMP Federal Operations, in partnership with Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, Compliance and Special Investigations, have seized a large quantity of marihuana and illegal cigarettes on Highway 102 Sunday evening.
On September 8th, at approximately 9:30 p.m., RCMP and Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, Compliance and Special Investigations, intercepted two vehicles on Highway 102 near Enfield as a result of an ongoing investigation. A search of the vehicles allowed police to seize approximately ten pounds of cannabis marihuana and 360,000 contraband cigarettes.
Tony Saoma, 50, from Laval, Quebec, is facing one count of Possession of Contraband Unstamped Tobacco and one count of Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking. Bouchra Khess, 37 and Gabby El-Baba, 49, both from Laval, Quebec, are each facing one count of Possession of Contraband Unstamped Tobacco. All three accused are also facing one charge under the Revenue Act for Possession of Tobacco Where Tax Not Paid and Transporting Tobacco Without a Bill of Lading.
The accused appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court yesterday. The investigation is continuing.
