Nova Scotia RCMP is alerting the public about a recent online scam.

In this particular scam, certain, frequently-queried recipes are identified by scammers who are able to lock the computer of the person who queried the recipe. The scammers then demand money in order to unlock the computer.

The RCMP suggests as a preventive measure, to ensure your computer’s virus protection software is up-to-date. If you have been victimized by this scam, disconnect your computer from the internet immediately and take it to a trusted professional to have it repaired.
