This is an enforcement-driven initiative designed to increase public compliance and awareness when it comes to safe driving measures and ultimately, to save lives.
As in other years, activities will involve targeted enforcement in the areas of impaired driving (alcohol/drugs/fatigue), occupant restraint use, and all aspects of aggressive driving for all users; drivers, riders and even pedestrians.
The week is also an educational campaign to stress the importance of safe driving behaviors.
We want to raise public awareness to our efforts to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world. Last year marked the conclusion of “Road Safety Vision 2010″ but our road safety initiative will continue for years to come.
This year, we launched a new 5 year road safety plan, in partnership with the CCMTA and Transport Canada, known as “Road Safety Strategy 2015”. The RCMP will continue to target the main causes of serious and fatal collision to reduce the number of unnecessary injuries and deaths on our roadways.
