As of January 1, a new traffic unit has been operating in communities policed by the RCMP in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
The Halifax District RCMP Traffic Unit consists of four members and is designed to enhance and focus operations related to Traffic Safety, Education and Enforcement throughout the District. The priority of the unit will be, but not limited to, the four causal factors of serious injuries and fatalities on our highways.
“Impaired Operation, speeding, seatbelts and cell phones will be our primary focus,” says Cpl. Dal Hutchinson, Halifax District RCMP Traffic Unit. “We continue to see motorists who fail to get the message to buckle up, slow down, put down their phone and not drive impaired.”
The new Unit has conducted 901 traffic stops between January 1 and March 31. As a result of these traffic stops, 387 Summary Offence Tickets have been issued to motorists for various offences.
